How to Play Dots and Boxes

Dots and Boxes is a simple game to learn but can provide hours of entertainment when all you have available is a pen and paper.


 Steps

    Draw the board. The board can be practically any size or shape. All that is necessary is for it to be uniform. For a beginner start with a square grid of dots 6x6.

  2. Choose which player is to go first and have that player join two unconnected adjacent dots with a line.

  4. The player that draws the 4th connecting line that completes any box earns a point for that box and takes another turn.

 Tips

  • The points are typically recorded by placing, in the box, an identifying mark of the player, such as an initial.
