Hit in Field Hockey
There are a few different typed of hits you need to know for field hockey. Each hit provides different levels of power and accuracy, and depending on your situation, there is always a hit to use.

Steps

  1. Drive- This hit is used when trying to move the ball across vast surfaces. Starting with both hands near the top of your stick and together, you swing back (being careful not to lift the stick above waist level), and swing both your arms and wrists simultaneously to drive the back down the field.
  2. Quick Hit- This hit is used when in a situation when time is short, and you need to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible. Which your hands places an inch or two apart in the middle of the grip on the stick, you mainly use your wrists to quickly snap the ball away from you.
  3. Choke Hit- This hit is used for quick shots as well as chip shots on cage. Starting with both hands together at the bottom of your stick, your wrist does the majority of the work, swinging back and forth to take a quick shot. This hit is known for its accuracy.
  4. Slap Hit- Often used with beginners, this hit is used for quick passes. Two hands are spread apart approximately a foot or two on the stick, and one simply "slaps" the ball to another player.

 Tips

  • For ultimate accuracy, try ending your hit by pointing the stick where you want the ball to go
  • Using a combination of wrist and arms increases power exponentially

 Warnings

  • Hitting takes time to master, so don't get too frustrated if it doesn't come immediately
